There is a silent crime in South Africa. One that not many people know about, but
it affects all people⦠electricity theft.
It is everywhere and contrary to popular view, it is not only poor communities who
steal electricity. It also happens in businesses and industries, big and small,
throughout the country.
Electricity theft is serious. In fact, Eskom loses an estimated R1.2 billion annually
due to energy theft and related activities. With regards to tariff hikes, these
could potentially increase in future if nothing is done about it.
The responsibility lies with all South African citizens to work together to stop
electricity theft and mobilise for legal power use. Operation Khanyisa is an opportunity
to do this.
It is time to do the right thing. The power is in your hands.
